For some months, I suffered using a phone that refused to last more than 1 minute into a call (after I stupidly tested its nonexistent waterproof capabilities), and shared my laptop with my sister. But when I found out that I was about to start working full time again (rather, working on six projects that will take up practically all of my time) after a two-month pseudo vacation, I thought that I needed a new PC and a phone if I was to work efficiently.
And so I went out last Saturday, with my boyfriend and credit cards in tow, and spent P45,000 on a new desktop and cellphone. Along with the PC came a 250 gigabyte hard drive with an external casing so I can back up all my files, and a wifi router so my sister and I can share the DSL. I also got a cellphone that can run mobile Gmail and open attachments =D.
But all the progress I made since the start of the year on reducing my credit card debt suddenly went poof! I feel both justified and poor.
And then last week, I got an exclusive invitation to a warehouse sale that happens twice a year. How can I pass that up? I’m going back to working in an office (at least, part time), and I need decent clothes. Right? So I ended up charging another P5k.
…..
Okay, I feel semi-justified and poorer.
Can I be quoted on the “money is evil” thing? =)
I couldn’t agree with you more. That’s the reality of living in a capitalist – and materialistic – society: work. earn. spend. work more. earn the same. spend more. It’s a never-ending chain, and we’re all caught up on it.
Ironically, we always are inclined to justify. Shopping is therapeutic. Spend now, pay later schemes. Preservation of bonding. Boredom. Career. Impulse. Insanity. The list goes on.
Like all human actions that we justify, spending is no exception. =)
Mwah!
Hahaha, of course. That quote is from my dear friend, Xtine 🙂
what cellphoe did you bought and how much? thanks!
Hi PBF, I got a Nokia N70. At the time, it was around P14,800 in greenhills. But now I’m sure it’s around a couple of thousands cheaper. =)
N70 can run mobile gmail and open attachments? I have N70 too for 13 months now and I never imagined it can do such thing! would you mind teaching me how to do it?
Also, I’m curious on how you land a job at ADB and you’re a writer by profession (correct me if I’m wrong). I mean what kind of job do you do? Development communication (like the course in UPLB). Thanks!
If I remember right, you point your Opera browser to http://m.gmail.com to download the application on your phone. You also have to have QuickWorld, QuickSheet, and QuickPoint installed in your phone for the attachments. They came pre-installed in mine, but I’m sure you can have them installed in Greenhills.
As for writing and ADB, well, every organization – no matter the industry – needs writers =) There will always be internal and external newsletters, publications, websites, brochures, press releases, etc. to write.
Thanks for the tip! but what connection are you using? I can’t seem to connect using myglobe gprs. tnx!
Globe’s 3G connection. It should automatically be activated in your phone already.
N70 is a good phone. And yes, its cheaper now. Around 11K when I went at at SM just this weekend. Could be cheaper at Greenhills.
